MON MUELLERSCHOeN'S
LEADING CULTURE DESTINATIONS:
Mon MUELLERSCHOeN founded MM-Artmanagement in 1990, a company which offers a wide variety of professional art management services for private and corporate art collectors all over Germany and Europe. She then published the great design book ‘Classics–The Best the World Has to Offer’ in the late-90s, whilst working with local artists in Los Angeles, before going on to work in consulting. Specialising in small collections and private clients, Mon has now extended to the care of over 6000 pieces of art. She added to this in 2010 by founding WunderKunst, an online gallery for prints, which is currently going through an exciting relaunch.
If there was one piece of art you could feature in, which ONE would it be and why?
I would like to be part of a Rachel Feinstein installation. I admire her ability to combine religion, myth, beauty, mortality, and decadence. It’s a wonderful, beautiful mix, and it would be fascinating to see what she would do with my form.
Who inspires you, and why?
This changes depending on my mood, but when life gets very hectic, I turn to classic antiquities. I can just look at a 3,000 year old bowl and ‘urgent’ appointments and e-mails and stress slip away in seconds, reminding me that time is relative. Of course, the people around me inspire me every day, too - artists, writers, family, and my smart, loyal girlfriends who are available 24/7 for me.
What are your cultural aspirations? What do you still want to see, do and achieve?
I want to travel more, and work less, and to explore things off-line more frequently, to see South America, pray in Tibet, feel the silence in Gobi desert, or hear the ice cracking in Antarctica. There is so much out there.
What are your favourite cultural cities in the world?
Paris has the best fashion, and it has the Mona Lisa. London has the best parties and the Tate Modern. New York has the best burgers and the Met. Rome has the best pasta and the Villa Borghese, Naples has the best pizza and the Museum of Archeologica Nazionale. Munich has the best beer and Alte Pinakothek. Berlin has the best street style and the Pergamon. I could go on forever.
What are you up to at the moment?
Over the last months I have been very busy preparing the new show "Oktoberfest Cathedrals" of one of my artists, Michael von Hassel, which we just opened last Friday at the Rathausgalerie in Munich. It was spectacular! More than a thousand people attended the opening and there were over eight thousand visitors in the first ten days, making it the best attended show at the Rathausgalerie ever!
