LEADING CULTURE DESTINATIONS:

VICTOire DE POurtales has had quite the illustrious career in the arts. having progressed in Christies and in various galleries, Victoire joined Thaddaeus Ropac gallery in 2007, and founded the contemporary drawing department the following year. She focused on the international development of the gallery, particularly Middle East, China, Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and at the same time, developed contacts with young fairs like that one in Abu Dhabi, in Hong Kong and in São Paulo.

Founder and member of the board of the association of the Jeunes Amis du Jeu de Paume in 2008, she is also part of the executive committee of the Tokyo Art Club since 2012. In March 2012, she participed at the launch of the magazine L’Officiel Art, creating a new concept in the artistic press: the artists are invited to intervene in this object-magazine towards advised connoisseur and collectors.


If there was one piece of art you could feature in, which one would it be?

Le Baiser by August Rodin.

Who inspires you, and why?

The American novelist, poet, playwright et art collector Gertrude Stein and the poet, essayist and visual artist Ethel Adnan, two talented and inspiring women and percourses.

What are your cultural aspirations?

Visiting the museum islands in Japan (Naoshima, Teshima and Inujima) and learning Japanese.

What are your favourite cultural cities in the world?

Paris, London and New York.

What are you up to at the moment?

I have developed the VNH Gallery project with my collaborator Hélène Nguyen-Ban in the fall 2015. Installed in the old showroom of the Galerie Yvon Lambert, VNH Gallery is a place where we want that the artists of different generation and varying ethnic origins- Olivier Mosset, Mircea Cantor, Mai-Thu Perret, Friedrich Kunath – to meet one another and create unexpected dialogue.
